PSYCHOLOGY COUNSELLING

This stream studies about person’s reactions and emotions. The understanding of individual’s behaviour helps in treatment of associated behavioural issues. A psychologist also performs counselling in various fields such as career, marital issues, clinical psychology etc.

The major specializations in Psychology are Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Health Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Sports Psychology, Community Counselling, Educational Psychology, School Counselling, School Psychology etc.

A psychologist should have good communication skills and must be compassionate. The analytical blend of mind and a patient approach is a required skill.

Counselling is very much in line with Psychology but it is taken again to highlight the significance of counselling as a separate and distinct career. The life of today is very much stressed and most of us feel low and confused at times.

A counsellor can be an expert and offer his services as Marriage and Family Counsellors, Mental/ Health Counsellors, Drug/ Alcohol abuse Counsellors, Career Guidance Counsellors and Rehabilitation Counsellors etc.

A counsellor should have an inclination in psychology as it helps to understand and analyse the human behaviour. Practical exposure helps to attain experience in counselling.
